About Ketamine

What is Ketamine Treatment?

Ketamine is a medicine originally developed in the 1960s as a surgical anesthetic. Over the past two decades, it has been rigorously studied for its effects on mood disorders. Unlike conventional antidepressants, which act on serotonin or dopamine and can take weeks to show results, ketamine works through the glutamate system, directly strengthening and reconnecting neural pathways weakened by stress and trauma. The medication is administered intravenously at controlled, low doses under medical supervision. Ketamine has been shown in multiple clinical studies to reduce symptoms of depression, suicidal thoughts, and PTSD within hours.

Who is it for?

Ketamine has many medical uses, but in here is where the evidence is strongest:

How Effective Is Ketamine Treatment?

Ketamine infusion is administered intravenously at measured doses (commonly 0.5 mg per kg) over a supervised 50-minute session while the patient remains awake and monitored by anaesthetic staff.

It is fast-acting: many patients report improvement within hours to days. Nausea is the most common side effect and is rapidly treatable; serious complications are rare with medical oversight. Clinical reports show rapid reductions in suicidal thinking, with some studies reporting reductions up to 70%. Maintenance sessions are offered on an individualised basis when clinically indicated.
